Who we are, how we got here…
A little story about me, Scott Merrill. I have been employed full-time in the computer business since my days in the US Air Force (1992) - that’s when the “bug” bit me. After I got out of the Air Force, I became fascinated (obsessed, actually) with that “neat little box”. Sometimes in life, you just make the right decision, even though you don’t know it at the time…learning computers was my (probably only) right decision. Given the state of today’s economy, fixing computers is one of the few things that will “survive the tide” - everyone has a computer, and they all need fixing at one point or another, regardless of how the stock market looks, or how bad the credit crunch gets.
I was actually “forced” into my position back in January of 2008. I had a full-time job as an I.T. Manager for a very large transportation company. I had been there since 2000, and was very happy in my job. I came in one Friday and they decided that they no longer needed someone to manage the help desk. Just like that.
After much deliberation (and sincere panic), I concluded that I had a decision to make: either go back to work full-time for someone else, doing the same thing I was doing, and perhaps maybe in 5 or 10 years, I could get laid off again …OR - take my passion, turn it into a succesful business by providing what the others don’t - a personal touch, reasonable prices and a willingness to always go the extra mile for each and every customer.
I decided on the latter, and it was the best decision I could have made.
Fixing computers is my passion - to be truthful, it comes so easily to me that I don’t even really consider it “work”. Because of how I love to do this, I believe it truly shows in the work that I do. I truly would like to grow this business into something big enough to be self-sustaining, with a full schedule every day, and several technicians working under me, but I will never leave my personal touch out of anything that has my name on it. I think that’s why so many people dislike “computer people” because they don’t seem to really care about you as a customer - it’s just about the money. Not to me…
I have a beautiful family - a lovely wife that I’ve been married to since July 2001 (who helps keep me, my business, the kids, the bills and everything else on track!), three wonderful children (4, 6 & 16), two amazing step-children (13 & 15), a “Swiffer” for a dog (Maltese), an oversized tomcat with an attitude (all cats have those, don’t they?), and all the standard drama that you probably have at your house on a daily basis!
I’m just a regular guy, with a regular life, trying to do something extra-ordinary. And I believe that that’s why my customers appreciate what I do for them - because I treat them like I would want to be treated. I talk to them, I chat with them, get to know their story…I follow up with them to make sure everything’s still okay weeks or months afterwards.
I truly enjoy being my clients’ “computer guy”. And I would ask that you give me the opportunity to be your “computer guy” as well.
